Happy Hour 2

from The View Never Changes by summerbruise

lyrics

okay, no one here’s a monster
i admit that was dramatic
but to be fair, it’d been a shit couple of summers

sold dad’s old car for scrap and left that picture on the dash, kyle’s sticker on the back
the sickest car i’ll ever have
i watched it all turn into one big ball of trash

maybe it’s my fault i’m always getting so attached to the stuff that’s only stuff
and not the stuff that actually lasts
just these relics of a past that’s getting further in the past
wish you’d look up for once at all the love and luck you’ve actually had

but you can’t; you’re too busy gettin’ bummed out at old pictures of your dad
no use waiting on the view to change if you’re always looking back
and i’m always lookin’ back

when people say you sometimes miss what’s right in front of you
i always thought that sounded like a crock of shit
but i guess that you can’t see what you can’t see if you can’t see it
so i can’t help but wonder what i’ve missed

i’ve been back to the capital a couple times since happy hour
but not to see the sights and shit just to come play happy hour
for some friends we made online and some more we met that night
man, RIP mystery inc
goddamn that really was the life

that’s just easy for me to say in hindsight
when i know that at the time i was probably whinin’ all the time
cause i’m still whinin’ all the time

so if it’s my fault that i can’t see what’s right in front of me
then self-awareness doesn’t seem to be the fix
cause even if i see how i can’t see what i can’t see
that just leaves me obsessed with all these things i’ll never know i missed

you’ve got no right to change the ending, but what if we reframe the plot?
maybe frankenstein was just about makin’ due with what you’ve got
so it starts with taking stock of the lot you’ve got in life
quit takin’ all those gifts for granted
quit hangin’ on to all that spite because you wasted all that time
waitin’ on something else to change your mind
what if i changed it myself and just decided you were fine?

well i know it’s not that easy, but i owe you all a try
i’m not that used to trying but i think it might feel nice

It’s time to let go of what you’ve let go by right in front of you
and try to look ahead and give a shit
about the stuff that actually lasts that you still have while you still have it
before it’s gone, just more you’ll never know you missed
